Account of life at Mulberry plantation, Kershaw County, S.C., including descriptions of furnishings and uses of various rooms; dining customs; names of various African-American slaves and their duties, including Romeo, head cook, and Big Judy, pastry cook. Also includes description of slave quarters; various outbuildings and work areas for blacksmith, wheelwright, spinning house, and cotton gin; services for slaves at the Mulberry chapel conducted by the Methodist Church; customs and celebrations associated with Christmas season; and an account of the burial of James Chesnut in 1866.
